Who We Are

Back in 1992 The Centre’s founder, Dee Graal, identified that there was a lack of support available in the borough for those whose lives had been touched by cancer. With that in mind and with the support of a number of local health professionals she set up what was then known as Widnes Hospice at home. By May of 1995 Dee and her supporters had raised enough money to open an advice centre in Frederick Street.

In 1997 Widnes Hospice at home merged with The Widnes Cancer Fund Association and Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Group was born. In 2023, the charity updated its name to Halton Cancer Support to better reflect the area it serves. We have been in our current home in Alforde Street, Widnes since 2003.
The Centre currently employs one full time and five part time members of staff who are supported by a team of fantastic volunteers. All of The Centre’s work is overseen by our chair and trustee board.
